[Dragon Well | Lóng Jǐng | 龙井 | Chinese Green ]
Rich with L-theanine & catechins, Dragon Well is the signature tea of Hangzhou's West Lake. Its name pays homage to a dragon who brought life-saving rain during a drought, and how the village well - with its mineral-dense groundwater - glimmers in rain with the ethereal likeness of dragons dancing just beneath the water's surface.
This fine tea comes in jade green leaves, and a light emerald liquor.
It bares a crisp mountain freshness, a slightly buttery chestnut sweetness, & toasted edge from the wok-fired roast where the tea is pressed flat by hand. A newer narrative attributes this classic shape to a kangxi emperor, who accidentally flattened Dragon Well tea leaves in his sleeve while rushing home from a Hangzhou visit.
Where our recent Green Snail sings a wild personality, eccentric and untamed - this Dragon is a character refined, composed and reassuringly calm.
